A long-time Worcester business is closing its doors.
Rotmans Furniture, Mattress & Accessory, which opened in Worcester in 1956, is going out of business, store manager Barbara Kane confirmed Tuesday.
Steve Rotman, the current CEO, inherited the business from his parents Murray and Ida Rotman.
Our founder has run the company for 60 years plus and he doesnt have immediate family to take over the reigns so the decision was made not to keep the store open, Kane said.
The sale of the business was a consideration, according to Kane, but she said she doesnt think there was a good match with a potential buyer so the decision was made to close.
Rotman, 83, told Furniture Today that with his kids in other careers and not family involved, Its time to make changes and move on.
Rotmans became a publicly traded company when a majority interest was acquired by Vystar Corp. Though, Rotmans is closing, Rotman will remain CEO of Vystar, Furniture Today reported.
Kane has worked for Rotmans for over 23 years and said the business considers itself a member of the Worcester community.
We feel weve been important to the fabric of the city, so you know its a sad time, she said. So we want to go out treating our customers the same way we always have with their interests and concerns in mind.
The store has a tremendous amount of stock, and will be having a going out-of-business sale that starts on Friday.
Everything thats in the store will be available for delivery or pickup and Kane is advising customers to come sooner rather than later, while the selection is at its best.
The sale will last until the supply runs out or prior to the end of the year, whichever comes first, according to Kane who said the companys hope is to close the store well before the end of the year.
During the sale the store will have extended hours, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
The business will be closed Oct. 12 and 13 in preparation for the sale.
